We are a Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Primary School situated north of the River Wear in the City of Sunderland.
We were the National Winners of the Pupil Premium Awards 2016
In 2018 we were over subscribed for admission to Reception Class. We currently have 90 children in that phase.
The school is the largest Primary School in Sunderland and yet maintains an excellent teacher to pupil ratio. We employ a wide range of support staff and teachers to ensure that teaching and learning meet the needs of the individual so that no child feels lost.
The national evidence demonstrates that pupils attending Church Schools tend to achieve much more than their counterparts. By the time they leave us almost all of our pupils achieve more than would be expected and we perform above average compared to national figures.
Behaviour in our school is always exemplary. We teach courtesy and respect. We also place a particular emphasis on the development of thinking skills and teamwork that in turn lead to the development of leadership skills, something that assures success in life.
We run a much wider range of after school and adventurous activities than most other schools in the area whilst maintaining a firm focus on academic achievement and progress. This is because children learn best from first hand experiences.
Whilst much of the school was built in the 1950s we have developed outstanding facilities, including an art gallery, community children’s library, an ECO garden, top of the range Early Years outdoor area, new leadership block, the latest IT infrastructure, state of the art classrooms and a new dining area and entrance.
We have a rich heritage and strong school personality. Pupils develop a keen sense of the past and what we owe to it. As a school we learn to support our community development. You can be sure of an excellent education at Northern Saints. Check out our Firm Foundations for further information.
